GNSH 2025 Spring Virtual Event

Sustainability & Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Implications for Simulation, today and in the future

Friday, April 4, 2025

10:00AM – 12:30PM EST

AGENDA

10:00 – 10:15 AM: Opening Remarks

    • Lennox Huang & Pamela Jeffries, GNSH Co-Chairs

10:15 – 11:00 AM: Keynote Address — Climate & Sustainability Action in the Health Sector: Implications for Simulation

    • Speaker: Dr. Fiona A. Miller, Professor & Chair in Health Management Strategies, Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto
    • Topic Overview: Together, we will review the case for sustainability in the health sector, given growing risks to health and health systems from climate-associated shocks and stresses, and the need to reduce healthcare’s sizeable contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and ecological decline. After considering how health systems are responding to these challenges globally, we will turn our attention to the implications for simulation. Drawing on published literature, we will highlight several ways in which the simulation profession is contributing to climate adaptation and pollution mitigation. At the same time, we highlight the growing threat that digital innovation, including AI, in simulation and beyond, pose to collective efforts to deliver more sustainable healthcare.
    • Moderator: Dr. Tim Willett, President & CEO, Simulation Canada

11:00 AM – 12:15 PM: Interactive Panel Discussion – Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Implications for Simulation

    • Panelist: Dr. Teodor Grantcharov, Professor of Surgery, Stanford Medicine
    • Panelist: Trisha L. Coady, Senior Vice President, Workforce Development Solutions, HealthStream
    • Moderator: Dr. Kellie Bryant, Director, NLN Center for Innovation in Education Excellence

12:15 PM – 12:30 PM: Spring Event Wrap-Up & Next Steps

    • Lennox Huang & Pamela Jeffries, GNSH Co-Chairs
